Real Life!

The country sights, sounds, and smells of our community bring a serenity that cannot  be matched in New Jersey.

Yet, not even the sweet pleasure of the country can sway us from the puzzling questions of life. No matter who we are or where we come from, life is certainly a big challenge and often a great struggle.

As we live from day to day, trying to make ends meet and trying to find pleasure in each day, answers and hope often elude us.  The Bible’s Old Testament wealthy King Solomon once wrote:

Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun.       Ecclesiastes 2:11      (ESV)

Thanks be to God that hope can be secured.  Jesus Christ said about himself,

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.  I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”   John 10:10-11 (ESV)

The beginning of hope is in Jesus Christ.  The Bible tells us in John 14:6 that “I (Jesus) am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Through Jesus Christ we have assurance for the life after this one and a constant hope as we journey in this life too.

This assurance did not come without a severe price…

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
      Isaiah 53:6  (ESV)

For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised..”
             2 Corinthians 5:14-15 (ESV)

In his love for us, Christ our Lord and God, sacrificed his life on the cross and took upon himself the penalty of our sins so that we might have real life and live this life for God himself.

The Christian life is no easy option.  Christ wants true dedicated followers of him…

“…to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,  and to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord, which I am commanding you today for your good?”
      Deuteronomy 10:12-13     (ESV)

“’If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.’”         Luke 9:23-24    (ESV)

Yet, God does not leave us to follow him on our own.  God said…  “for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’”            Hebrews 13:5  (ESV)

Many people fear that following Christ with all their heart, soul and mind would infringe on their freedoms when in actuality, the opposite is the truth.  Christ gave us his word and his life to set us free…

…not to chain us. These “commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good” (Deut. 10:12-13).
God said that if Christ sets you free, then you will be free indeed!  (John 8:36)

To ignore or reject this challenge would leave us facing the unthinkable…

“Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”        John 3:18     (ESV)
